When my parents separated, I got depression and the only things that kept me afloat were my videogames. Since then I have come to realize that games are not only to entertain people, and just like movies, they are made to take your mind away from your problems and get you into these fictional worlds where you truly control everything around you.
I believe video games, just like any other form of art, can change your mood, inspire you, and even change you as a person.
Games have the potential to change your mood; There are games that are difficult and this difficulty can make you mad. Perhaps the game is fairly easy yet its plot frustrates you because it is not the way you want it to be. There are as many games dedicated purely to fun as there are games with a more serious or emotional tone; These mellow games tend to have an effect on people. They show us a story from someone else's point of view so we can understand them and embrace new ideas. We become more open minded; we become our character. We often take the role of the "hero" in the story and this makes us feel like we can accomplish anything. It gives us that optimistic view about the world, and people often become more altruistic. We want to be the hero.
Games have taught me many things besides pressing "A" and "B," they have shaped and molded me into who i am today, and yet i strive to better myself everyday.
